Uncomfortable truths and Comfortable Lies
I don’t know what’s more unnerving, the shit that’s going on in the world, or the people who are wholly unaware of the shit that’s going on in the world.
Although the news is getting harder to read and watch, I won’t stop reading and I won’t avert my gaze. Though it may be gruesome, though it may make me sick— I prefer the uncomfortable truths over the comfortable lies. When you bury your head in the sand, when you stop reading the news and stop paying attention (real news… not Lindsay Lohan or Brittney Spears or whatever is considered ‘news’ these days) — you begin living a life of comfortable lies.
There’s some *real* shit going on. More than deflated footballs, more than Katy Perry half-time shows, more than fake herbal supplement hysteria. More than my stupid shit. We don’t exist in a vacuum. We can’t expect that crazy shit will never hit home for us, too.
I’m not saying I think it’s a good idea to become engrossed in current events and perseverate on things that don’t serve you in life—I’m saying I think you should be aware, even if it’s just a little bit. Because when you are aware, when you are informed, you make aware and informed decisions. And you never know how these things will impact you in the future. You can’t see what’s around the corner.
